Actus Reus

“Any act of a victim or intervening act of a third party that is equally capable of causing the resulting harm will break the chain of causation”. Asses the validity of the given statement with reference to the general principles of Novus Actus Interveniens and relevant case law.

Material Details

  1. Word limit: 2500 words. An allowance of 100 words is permitted. Answers that fall outside the permitted range will be penalized accordingly. Footnotes and headings do not contribute to the word limit.
  2. Do not use bullet points. Write in paragraphs and in proper English.
  3. Deadline for submission: 23rd of June 2026 Answers submitted after the deadline will receive a maximum mark of 10 out of 25.
  4. Answers are to be submitted via the Google Classroom in Google Docs format
  5. In relation to the Google Classroom submission, please note that answers submitted in Word or PDF format WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. All answers must be submitted in GOOGLE DOCS FORMAT.

Formatting requirements

  1. Arial, font size 11, double spacing, 1-inch margins on all sides.
  2. Headings are to be in bold and italicized.
  3. Your full name must be included in the HEADER. It should appear on every page of your answer.
  4. Referencing must be in compliance with the OSCOLA standard. Deviation from this will result in the loss of marks.

  • All authority must be referenced.
  • A bibliography must be provided.
