This course will provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to understand the global economic, political, cultural and social environment within which firms operate. It will examine the strategies and structures of international business and assess the special roles of an international business’s various functions. It will also prepare students to formulate and execute strategies, plans, and tactics to succeed in international business ventures.

Individual Assignment

You are required to submit two individual assignments based on the two questions and also a written article as outlined below: –

Assessment Details

Question 1

Using concepts from the course, analyse how the political, economic, legal, and cultural environments influence the international operations of a multinational enterprise (MNE) of your choice.

Guidelines for Students

• Briefly explain the four environmental dimensions as discussed by Hill.
• Apply these concepts to a real multinational company operating in at least two different countries.
• Analyse how differences in these environments create opportunities and risks for the firm.
• Support your answer with examples and references.

Question 2

Critically evaluate the global strategy of a multinational corporation in achieving competitive advantage in international markets. Based on your evaluation, propose strategic recommendations for improving its global performance.

Guidelines for Students:

• Analyse the firm’s current international strategy using frameworks from Hill (e.g., global standardization, localization, transnational strategy).
• Evaluate the effectiveness of this strategy in terms of cost efficiency, differentiation, and responsiveness to local markets.

Assignment Guidelines

1. The Assignment must be typed, and well presented. It must be written in business REPORT format/style. You may, however, use subheadings and bulletpoints where appropriate within the report. 2. In this particular Assignment you MUST include a bibliography (references). This should be on a separate page. FULL details are required – name and initials of all authors, full title, publisher, place, and date of publication. At this level of study, you must get these details right!
3. The word limit for the first Assignment is 2,000 words. You will not be penalised for exceeding these limits – within reason (say 10%) – provided that there is no repetitiveness, irrelevance, or “padding”. Similarly, you will not be penalised for being under the word limit, provided that the question has been fully and satisfactorily answered.
4. Although you are encouraged to seek a greater understanding of the issues raised in this Assignment by discussing them with business practitioners of your personal acquaintance, you are NOT permitted to make unsolicited contact with business organisations to obtain information.

Brief Description of the Assignment and Guidance Scenario: Continuing from Assignment 1, you have been requested to present as a keynote speaker at the Business Annual Meeting as an intern at the firm you have already appointed. The topic of the Group presentation will be shared with the students during the onset of the class.

• You are required to prepare a GROUP PRESENTATION (Group of 4) based on the above.
• Your presentation must be creative and innovative and should have a maximum of TEN (10) slides and not more than six minutes.
• The content of your presentation should follow or reflect the written part of your Assignment.
• You must give a presentation during class as a group; you will be given your time slot during class.
