Description
Students are required to produce an outline of a literature review report of an approved research topic by their respective lecturer. This is a group work of not more than 10 students. Students must consult their respective lecturers to obtain approval of the topic by Week 8 of the semester.
Recommended steps in producing the outline:
a) First, students are required to brainstorm a research topic and narrow it down to a researchable title.
b) Next, students must do sufficient library research on the topic to scope the objective and direction of the literature review to a comprehensive title.
c) After consulting with their respective lecturer, students are to write the outline, thematically. At this stage, students must assign the topics and sub-topics accordingly and use in-text citation when necessary.
d) End the outline with an APA-style of references. Include only references that are used in the outline. Students are expected to cite at least 30 journal articles.
With all above in mind, students are expected to produce an estimated 3-5 pages of an outline of a literature review report (not exceeding 10 pages).
The outline must adhere APA style of in-text citation and referencing.
The outline must have the following elements:
1) Cover Page (Full name, cohort, Student ID, Assessment title, Title of your report)
2) Introduction (explain the research area in general)
3) Body: Item A, Item B (sub-topics/ Themes)
4) References

Outline of Review of Literature
I. Introduction
a. Describe the overall topic that you have been investigating, why it is important to the field, and why you are interested in the topic.
b. Identify themes and trends in findings. Give a “big picture” of the literature.
c. Write a clear thesis statement and a good transition sentence to connect the introduction with the content paragraphs.
II. Theme A1
a. Overview of characteristics of the theme (commonalities, differences, nuances)
b. Sub-theme 1 – narrow but grouped findings related to the theme
i. Summary of the 1st identified finding related to sub theme 1
ii. Summary of the 2nd identified finding related to sub theme 1
iii. Summary of the 3rd identified finding related to sub theme 1
c. Sub-theme 2– narrow but grouped findings related to the theme
i. Summary of the 4th identified finding related to sub theme 2
ii. Summary of the 5th identified finding related to sub theme 2
iii. Summary of the 6th identified finding related to sub theme 2
d. Etc., etc., etc. with other findings that fit Theme A; studies can be repeated ifthere are multiple findings that fit under more than one theme.
III. Theme B – follow a, b, c, and so on from above
IV. Keep repeating with themes
V. References
The above outline is to be used with discretion. There can be more parts / themes identified, thus the outline is not confined only 5 parts / sections.
Each group exceeding 4 students is expected to have a minimum of 2 themes. No maximum number of themes is imposed but it is recommended to not exceed 5 themes. Reminder: Maximum 10 pages of content. (Cover page & reference pages are not counted)
