Instructions
Complete the assignment and submit the report on 6th August 2025.
Your task is to apply your knowledge from the “Topic 3” slides to design and justify a simple classroom assessment. This will demonstrate your ability to distinguish between different types of assessment and scales of measurement in a practical way. This assignment directly addresses CLO1: Distinguish the concepts and the types of measurement, evaluation and test.
Part A: Design a Simple Assessment
- Choose a Topic: Select a simple topic for any Malaysian primary school subject and year level (e.g., “Local Fruits” for Year 2 English, or “States of Matter” for Year 4 Science).
- Describe the Assessment: Briefly describe a simple test or quiz for your chosen topic. You do not need to write the actual questions. Just describe the format.
Example Description: “My assessment is a 10-minute quiz for Year 4 Science on the topic ‘States of Matter’. It has two parts: Part 1 consists of 5 multiple-choice questions. Part 2 is one short-answer question where students must describe the process of water turning into ice.”
Part B: Justify Your Design Using Concepts from the Slides
Based on the assessment you designed in Part A, answer the following questions. You must use the terminology from the “Topic 3” slides in your explanations.
Assessment Types:
- Formal or Informal? Classify your assessment and explain why in one sentence.
- Formative or Summative? Classify your assessment and explain its purpose (e.g., for grading, or to adjust teaching).
- Objective or Subjective? Identify which parts of your assessment are objective and which are subjective (if any) and explain why.
Scales of Measurement:
- Ratio Scale: How could you use the scores from your assessment to produce ratio data? (Hint: Think about total marks). Report 30%
- Ordinal Scale: How could you use the results of your assessment to create an ordinal scale? (Hint: Think about ranking).
- Nominal Scale: How could you use the results of your assessment to create a nominal scale? (Hint: Think about grouping students).
