Healthcare facilities are essential for providing quality and accessible health services to the population. This is because healthcare facilities are where healthcare professionals provide care to patients. The quality of care that patients receive depends on the availability of healthcare professionals, the types of healthcare professionals available, and the skill mix of the healthcare workforce.
Understanding the staffing patterns across different states, years, staff types, and hospital categories can provide valuable insights into the healthcare workforce landscape. This is because the staffing patterns can reveal how the healthcare workforce is distributed across different areas, over time, and by the type of healthcare professional. This information can be used to identify areas where there are shortages of healthcare professionals, to track changes in the healthcare workforce over time, and to make informed decisions about future staffing needs.
In this study, we analyze the staff distribution data for the year 2017, focusing on the states of Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, and W.P. Putrajaya in Malaysia. These three states were chosen because they are the most populous states in Malaysia, and they are also home to a large number of healthcare facilities. The analysis of the staff distribution data will provide insights into the current state of the healthcare workforce in these three states, and it will also help to identify areas where there are shortages of healthcare professionals.
The staff types considered in this analysis include doctors, dentists, nurses, and community nurses. These staff members are essential for delivering comprehensive healthcare services to the population. The hospital categories are divided into government and private sectors, representing different healthcare service providers. Analyzing the staff distribution by state, year, staff type, and hospital category provides a comprehensive overview of the healthcare workforce in these regions.
These findings can inform healthcare policymakers, administrators, and stakeholders in making informed decisions regarding resource allocation, staffing strategies, and improving healthcare delivery in Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, and W.P. Putrajaya.
