TASK DESCRIPTION

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT 1 LITERATURE MATRIX

Instruction

You are required to analyse AT LEAST 10 related articles and write a literature matrix report.

Process

  1. identify a research topic. For example, Factors influencing social media usage among Gen Y.
  2. Identify 2 to 3 keywords. For example, social media, adoption
  3. Search for literature. The article must be: a) From indexed journal (Web of Science or SCOPUS) b) less than 5 years old (2020 onwards)
  4. Download the articles
  5. Read the abstract of the articles
  6. Select at least 10 articles (most relevant to topic)
  7. Read the articles

Literature Matrix Report – Template & Guide

1. Cover Page

  • Title: Factors Influencing [Your Research Topic]
  • Student Name
  • Student ID
  • Course & Assignment Title
  • Submission Date

2. Table of Contents

  1. Abstract
  2. Introduction
  3. Literature Review
    • 3.1 Objectives of the Studies
    • 3.2 Theories Applied
    • 3.3 Conceptual Models/Constructs
    • 3.4 Methodology
    • 3.5 Unit of Analysis
    • 3.6 Data Analysis Methods
  1. Comparative Analysis & Discussion
  2. Findings & Gaps in Literature
  3. Conclusion
  4. References

4. Introduction

  • Define your research topic
  • Justify its importance (why it matters in business, education, society, etc.)
  • State your keywords clearly (e.g., “social media adoption, Gen Y, digital engagement”)
  • Outline how the report is structured

5. Literature Review

5.1 Introduction

·         Literature Matrix Table

Author/Year Objective Country Theory Used Constructs Methodology Unit of Analysis Data Analysis
A1 To study X Malaysia TPB Trust, PU Quantitative survey Individuals PLS-SEM
A2 To examine Y India TAM PU, PEOU Quantitative survey Students Regression
  • Compare objectives of 10 papers.
  • Example: Most studies focused on identifying adoption factors (A1, A2, A5), while others emphasized behavioural outcomes (A3, A7).

5.2 Theories Applied

  • Discuss the main theories used.
  • Example: The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) appeared in four studies (A1, A4, A6, A10). While A1 and A4 integrated trust, A6 added cultural factors, and A10 retained the original TPB framework.

5.3 Conceptual Models / Constructs

  • Summarize similarities/differences in constructs.
  • Example: Common constructs include perceived usefulness and ease of use (A2, A3, A5). A7 introduced “digital fatigue” as a new construct.

5.4 Methodology

  • Quantitative vs Qualitative breakdown
  • Sampling techniques (random, purposive, snowball, etc.)

5.5 Unit of Analysis

  • Example: Most studies analyzed individuals (students, Gen Y workers), while A8 studied organizations.

5.6 Data Analysis Methods

  • Example: PLS-SEM dominated (A1, A2, A3, A9), while A5 used regression and A7 applied thematic analysis.

6. Comparative Analysis & Discussion

  • Create a narrative synthesis
  • Highlight patterns, similarities, differences
  • Use tables/figures for clarity

Sample Discussion (Theory Section):

The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) was the most widely used framework (A1, A2, A4, A10). While the basic model includes attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control, researchers extended it differently. Trust was included by A1 and A2, personality by A4, and A10 used the original model. This shows flexibility in adapting TPB to modern digital contexts.

7. Findings & Research Gaps

  • Summarize what the literature agrees on
  • Identify contradictions
  • Suggest gaps for future research

Example:

  • Agreement: Ease of use is consistently a strong predictor of adoption.
  • Contradiction: While A3 found age moderates adoption, A6 reported no significant age effect.
  • Gap: Few studies explore post-adoption behavioural outcomes such as digital well-being.

8. Conclusion

  • Wrap up the key findings from the literature matrix
  • Reiterate the importance of your research topic
  • Suggest next steps (future research directions, practical implications)

9. References

  • Use APA 7th edition
  • Example:

Davis, F. D. (2020). Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and user acceptance of information technology. MIS Quarterly, 44(3), 319–340.
