Assignment Details

Assignment Overview

This assessment requires learners to develop a refined and integrated business research proposal based on a selected organisational problem.

Learners will build on prior learning to justify, integrate, and strengthen their methodological decisions.

The focus is on:

  • coherence
  • justification
  • methodological integration
  • decision relevance

The focus is on coherence, justification, methodological integration, and decision relevance.

This assessment is aligned with CLO2 (C6: creation of a research proposal).

Assignment Requirements

Learners must complete the following:

1. Define Business Problem and Objectives

  • Clearly describe the organisational issue
  • Formulate focused and relevant research objectives

2. Develop Conceptual Foundation (with supporting literature)

  • dentify key variables or constructs
  • Define constructs using relevant academic sources
  • Explain proposed relationships (if applicable)
  • Present a simple framework or logical model

3. Develop Research Design (CORE)

  • Select appropriate research approach (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed)
  • Propose a suitable research design
  • Justify alignment with research objectives

4. Develop Data Collection Method

  • Identify appropriate data collection technique(s)
  • Explain how data will be collected – Justify the choice

5. Develop Measurement Strategy (CORE)

  • Identify key variables
  • Select existing validated measurement scales from academic literature
  • Provide sample items (2–3 per construct) –        Justify the suitability of selected scales

6. Develop Sampling Plan – Define target population

  • Select sampling technique
  • Provide basic justification for sample size

7. Demonstrate Integration & Coherence (CORE)

  • Ensure consistency across objectives, variables, design, and methods  – Demonstrate logical flow of the research proposal

8. Link to Managerial Decision-Making

  • Explain how the proposed research supports business decisions

Reporting Structure

The report must include the following sections:

MGT6202E Individual Project : Proposed Rubric 3 – 30%

This individual assignment accounts for 30% of the total marks for the course and shall be assessed based on the Rubrics below:

Criteria Excellent (4) Good (3) Satisfactory (2) Weak (1) Marks
Problem Definition & Research Objectives Problem is clearly defined, specific, and grounded in a realistic organisational context. Objectives are precise, logically derived, and fully aligned with the problem. Problem is clear with adequate context. Objectives are relevant and mostly aligned with the problem. Problem is general or lacks clarity. Objectives are present but partially aligned or vague. Problem is unclear, unrealistic, or poorly explained. Objectives are missing, unclear, or not aligned. /4
Conceptual Foundation (Variables / Framework) Key variables are clearly identified and logically structured. Relationships are explicitly explained and conceptually sound. Framework or logic model is coherent and supported by relevant literature. Variables are identified with reasonable clarity. Relationships are generally explained but may lack depth or literature support. Variables are partially identified. Relationships are unclear or weakly explained. Limited use of supporting sources. Variables are missing, incorrect, or not linked. No meaningful conceptual basis. /4
Research Design (Appropriateness & Justification) Research approach and design are highly appropriate to the objectives. Strong and explicit justification is provided. Clear alignment between problem, objectives, and design. Design is appropriate with reasonable justification. Minor gaps in alignment or explanation. Design is basic or partially appropriate. Limited or weak justification. Alignment is unclear. Design is inappropriate, unclear, or not justified. No alignment with objectives. /6
Methodological Design (Data Collection, Measurement & Sampling) Data collection, use of validated measurement scales, and sampling are fully appropriate and logically aligned. Clear justification of scale selection and strong alignment with research objectives. Methods are appropriate with some justification. Measurement scales are relevant, but explanation is limited. Minor inconsistencies present. Methods are basic or partially appropriate. Measurement approach is weak or insufficiently justified. Some inconsistencies present. Methods are inappropriate, unclear, or poorly explained. Measurement scales not appropriate or missing. No justification or alignment. /6
Integration & Coherence (C6 – Creation) All components (problem, variables, design, methods) are fully integrated. Strong logical flow across the proposal. No inconsistencies. Demonstrates clear synthesis and creation of a coherent research plan. Components are mostly integrated. Logical flow is present with minor inconsistencies. Partial integration. Some components are disconnected or weakly linked. No integration. Components are fragmented, inconsistent, or contradictory. /6
Managerial Relevance Clear and strong explanation of how the proposed research informs business decision-making. Practical implications are explicit and relevant. Explanation is relevant but lacks depth or clarity. Basic or vague link to decision-making. No clear link to decision-making. /2
Clarity, Structure & Academic Writing Writing is clear, concise, and wellstructured. Logical flow throughout. Academic tone is consistent. Referencing is accurate and consistent. Generally clear with minor issues in structure or expression. Some referencing errors. Writing lacks clarity in parts. Organisation is weak. Several referencing errors. Poor writing quality.
