Engineering Computation and Analysis with MATLAB Assignment Malaysia
Thermal analysis and finite element analysis of structure
This project requires students to choose a structure to perform both thermal analysis & Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on a structure. The structure geometry (e.g.: CPU heat sink, etc.) can be created on any CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and saved as an STL file type. The structure geometry is then imported by MATLAB codes to perform both Thermal Analysis and FEA. After completion of the analysis, you are required to make some modifications or improvements to the design of the structure to improve heat transfer performance and the structure’s static performance. You may utilize the TRIZ method (or a similar method) for design improvement.
There are some online materials from MathWorks that you may refer to for the completion of the project. These materials are targeted at all users, and you may pick some of them which are useful for your analysis.

These items shall be included in your report:
- Introduction of your chosen structure.
- Identify all possible heat surfaces of your choice and explain the applied load of your choice.
- Modification of given MATLAB code with explanation details.
- MATLAB results from Command Window and detailed-oriented graph plots of any choices.
- Perform mesh size convergence tests to verify your results.
- Design improvements in geometry or other material usage (at least once) and repeat items (4) to (5).
- Discussion of results.
- Conclusion.
The Conclusion section summarizes the main conclusions from the discussion of the results. It should also conclude whether the experiment’s objectives are achieved. It should generally not exceed half an A4 page in length.
