2. GUIDELINES FOR GROUP ASSIGNMENT (ACADEMIC ESSAY)
A. Students are required to prepare an academic essay consisting of Part A and Part B with total pages of no less than 5 pages and no more than 20 pages. The total pages do not include the front page, table of contents, references, appendices, and the assessment marking form.
B. The essay should be a genuine product of the students and not a copy of or aplagiarized version of other people/author(s).
C. The group essay MUST be organized based on the following order: *:
i. Front Cover** (sample can be downloaded on WBLE)
ii. Table of Content (listing ALL items with page number)
iii. Part A
iv. Part B
v. References (refer to Section E)
vi. Appendices (include ALL materials used and arrange them in
sequence)
vii. Assessment Form (sample can be downloaded on WBLE)
* Refer to Section D for the detailed structure.
** Ensure that you have written the title of your assignment on the front cover
(Refer to the Assignment Question.).
D. The group essay MUST be typed according to the following format:
i. Font: Times New Roman of size 12
ii. Paragraph: Break your essay into paragraphs with indentation
iii. Line spacing: 2.0 with spacing between paragraphs
iv. Alignment: Justify
v. Page layout: Size A4 with 1” margin on all sides and can be printed on either one side or both sides.
vi. Page number: On top right corner with running head on top left corner

F. Students MUST NOT present the work of another as if it were their own work. Whether paraphrasing or quoting an author directly or describing an idea that influenced your work, you MUST credit/cite the source.
G. To avoid charges of plagiarism, your group essay MUST clearly acknowledge the sources of ANY quotation or paraphrase through in-text citations and references:
i. Use the APA Style in-text citation
ii. Use the APA Referencing Style

source/original author AND how to write the reference according to the APA

H. Plagiarism is STRICTLY prohibited:
i. Authors/students MUST NOT present the work of another as if it were
their own work.
ii. Whether paraphrasing, quoting an author directly, or describing an idea
that influenced your work, you MUST credit and cite the source/original
author according to the APA style. (Refer to Section E)
iii. To avoid charges of plagiarism, take careful notes as you research to
keep track of your sources and cite those sources according to the APA
Referencing Style. (Refer to Section E)
REMINDER: Students are NOT allowed to use Wikipedia and lecture notes as the sources of any quotation or statements in the essay.
I. To prevent issue related to non-participative members and to improve efficiency ofthe group assignment, each group MUST meet and discuss the progression of the group assignment with the tutor.
i. The meeting can be done before/during/after the tutorial class or any time
and/or place arrangements that were made with the tutor.
ii. All group members must be present in the group progression meeting with
the tutor.
3. SUBMISSION OF THE GROUP ASSIGNMENT
A. The essay assignment is to be submitted only in a printed hardcopy to the tutor.
B. The date and time of the submission will be informed by the tutor. The students are encouraged to submit earlier and to avoid last-minute submission.
C. The essay can be passed to the lecturer/tutor during the classes or handed in at the lecturer/tutor’s office/room.
REMINDER: Students MUST arrange the meeting with the lecturer/tutor in
advance if they wish hands in the essay assignment at the lecturer/tutor’s
office/room to ensure the submission is directly received by the lecturer/tutor.
