1.0 INTRODUCTION
Leaching in the metal industry is a hydrometallurgical process which used to extract metals from ores or solid waste. Nowadays, Leaching is becoming a favourable process for recovering or extracting metals from industrial solid waste/sludge. The metals can be precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum, and nonferrous metals such as aluminium, copper nickel, manganese, lead, titanium, and zinc. The process involves dissolving the desired metals into a liquid solvent, typically an acid or a base, so they can be separated from the waste, depending on type of metals to extract. This leaching process is promising because of its effectiveness, versatility, advantages for the environment, and economic. Additionally, it supports sustainability practices, enables the recovery of valuable metals from a variety of waste types, and keeps improving to enhance its efficacy and safety.
2.0 COURSE AND PROGRAMME OUTCOMES WITH COMPLEX ENGINEERING PROBLEMS & KNOWLEDGE PROFILE
This assignment addresses two (2) course outcomes and two (2) programme outcome (PO) which are mapped to complex engineering problem characteristics (WP) and the required knowledge profiles (WK) as shown in Table 1.

Ability to recognize (C4) various types of unit operations and analyze (C4) the operation range of a separation processes in unit operations based on mathematics, numerical analysis, data analysis, statistics and formal aspects of computer with awareness of relevant social sciences.
CO2
Ability to evaluate (C5) with efficient resource use, environmental impacts, wholelife cost, re-use of resources, net zero carbon to support the formulate and design (C6) of various unit operations for separation processes
3.0 LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR THE ASSIGNMENT
At the end of this project, the students should be able to:
a) Apply the fundamental knowledge/basic concepts of solid liquid separations todirectly relate with engineering problems.
b) Analyse the identified problem and propose/evaluate the alternative solutions.
c) Apply calculations method to solve problems related to multiple stages solid liquidextraction.
